EASY WAY #5
Know About Safe Water
About 60 percent of our body is made up of water! So any toxins lurking in water we drink, shower or soak in, can end up affecting us. Here are some of the toxins that are commonly found in soil, groundwater, drinking water and irrigation water around the country:- Chlorine, mercury, lead and other heavy metals
- Hormones from drugs and pesticides
- Perchlorate, a chemical used in air bags, electronics, fertilizers and rocket fuel
The Dangers of Unfiltered Water
Perchlorate, the explosive main ingredient of rocket and missle fuel, contaminates drinking water supplies, groundwater or soil in hundreds of locations across 43 states, according to the Environmental Working Group's updated analysis of government data. Perchorate interferes with the ability of the thyroid to get enough iodide, a necessary nutrient that protects against breast cancer. Perchlorate, at higher doses, has also been linked to thyroid cancer and a weakened immune system.
Chlorine, which is still used to eradicate dangerous bacteria in most municipal water supplies, was shown in a 1992 Harvard study to raise the risk of bladder cancer by 21 percent and rectal cancer by 38 percent. A 2007 study published in the International Journal of Health Geography also supports this connection between chlorinated water supplies and a significant increase in rectal cancer, especially in areas where shallow ground water is the major source of municipal water.
With no regulations on bottled water and new research showing that chemical hormones from some plastics can shed, most bottled water is less than best, what can a person do about this unsafe water pouring out of our taps?
Keeping Your Water Free of Harmful Toxins
Use filtered water for drinking and bathing
To keep you body free of cancer causing chemicals, including animal and human hormones that are often found in municipal water supplies and in well water;
Install a reverse osmosis water filter in your basement or under your kitchen sink and on your shower head.
Avoid drinking water from plastic bottles that contain bisphenol-A (BPA ).

Rocket Fuel in Drinking Water, Perchlorate Pollultion Spreading Nationwide — This study from the Environmental Working Group finds that drinking water is becoming increasingly contaminated with perchlorate, the main ingredient in rocket fuel. Percholrate is a chemical that interferes with normal thyroid function and may cause cancer, yet is unregulated by state or federal authorities.
